Scand.’s Favorite 100 Songs of 2007

As promised, here is the list you probably haven’t been waiting for. I got deathly ill right after Christmas (I’m slightly exaggerating here, but everyone loves a sob story) so a lot have things have been up in the air. But I’m back on track now!

So these are my favorite songs. I tried really hard not to be one of those elitist music douchebags but I’m not so sure how well that worked out. But this is my list of my favorite songs so if you don’t like them you can fuck off! Yeah!

Also, because I love you and want to expose you to new music, I’ve made each part of this compilation available for download. Just click on the image or the link below each image to download the zip files. Consider it my present to you. Because I love you. I don’t really want you to fuck off.

‘Tis the season for an identity crisis

musiccomingsoon.jpg

Hello lovely readers. I’m sure I only have about two of you now (if that) since I’ve been on a hiatus these last few months. Oh, by the way, I’ve been on a hiatus. Yeah. I thought about making a post about it, but that strays into tricky territory - if I’m on a hiatus, can I post and say that I am on a hiatus? Does that defy the rules of a posting-hiatus?

Anyway. It’s no matter. The point is, while I probably will continue to disappoint my last two readers with a noticeable absence of celebrity gossip in the coming weeks, I can assure you I will be sharing something much, much more awesome. I’m sure you, dear mother and aunt, are not very excited to know that I am going to be sharing with you my TOP 100 SONGS OF 2007 list, but hopefully some poor souls will stumble upon this site and find some use for the compilation.

I know that this is a gossip blog, and pretentious lists of obscure music is probably not why you stop by once a month to see if I’ve gotten off my lazy virtual ass and shared insight on shallow people with unattainable wealth and idiocy… but I don’t really care. This is my blog, and if it’s going to be vacant I may as well share what I’ve so diligently spent my time working on over the last few weeks. Because I have been working diligently - this list is very, very important to me. Most years I only make a top 20 or 30 list, but this year merited a top 100.

Anyway - carry on. Go back to visiting the blogs that actually give you both news and hilarious commentary. In a few days, if you choose to return, you will find the greatest Christmas present of all - some lovely zip files with all of the best songs of the year, subjectively chosen by your favorite slacker of a gossip blogger. I really can’t wait to share it with you. Stay tuned.

Robyn’s video for ‘Handle Me’

The song isn’t necessarily a new one - I’ve had it on my go-to playlist for almost two years now - but she’s finally releasing it as a single, so I thought I’d give you the heads up on the video. It’s fun, just like the song!

However, my favorite Robyn song of all time will always be “Be Mine”.. the video for that song was released almost two years ago but here it is anyway. Best song ever.

Feist’s music video for 1234

Leslie Feist is my homegirl. I was so excited when this album turned out to be even better than her last, which I thought would be impossible, but no. Anyway this is definitely one of the standout tracks from the album, and the video is really neat.

But a lot of the neatness stems from how it was shot, which you can see below in this ‘the making of’ video.

Possibly the greatest music video of all time….

And not to mention, one of the best songs out right now. I seriously have had this song in my head for three months straight! Here’s the video for Spoon’s awesome song, ‘Don’t you evah’ (which is actually a cover of an unreleased song by the band The Natural History). It features the awesome robot Keepon and is definitely worth at least one viewing… or, if you’re like me, 15 viewings.

Heather Graham has a music video

heather.jpg

Wow, I never thought I’d see Heather Graham singing in a music video. But now that I have, it makes perfect sense that in the video you get to see her:

1) Have sex with a man
2) Kiss a girl
3) Shoot up

4) Sing the lyrics, ‘I’d never fake for you’

And surprisingly, I don’t think she’s that bad of a singer. Of course, I’m comparing her to other actresses-turned-singers such as Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Jennifer Lopez. The song is actually very dark, and had a borderline-country feel to it. It’s almost like Heather is paying homage to Johnny Cash. There’s a very real possiblity that the only reason I don’t think Heather Graham’s singing voice is terrible is because I watched her sing, and seeing as though her powers of hotness will make you forget she sucks at acting, I’m willing to bet it works the same way with singing.

It’s on: Kenny vs Kanye vs Fitty

feud0.jpg

This story is just too good to be true. It was already mildly amusing before, when Kanye and Fitty were being all middle-school about their albums dropping, but Kenny Chesney has just taken it to the next level. Which probably means he’s going to get a cap busted in his ass on September 11th, when the album showdown is set to occur. Uh, good luck, Kenny!

Entertainment Weekly reports:

It’s funny how with every record that comes out, we’re aware of the urban [competition], and none of those acts acknowledge that I exist,” Chesney tells EW via email. “Until I have that No. 1 debut on the Top 200.”

Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates, Chesney’s 11th studio album, goes on sale the same Tuesday morning as 50 Cent’s Curtis and Kanye West’s Graduation. Chesney’s last four studio efforts have opened atop Billboard’s albums chart — including his most recent effort, The Road and the Radio, which beat the original soundtrack to 50 Cent’s film Get Rich or Die Tryin’ when both debuted in November 2005.

50 Cent has said that he will retire from his recording career if West outsells him next month. West took a more diplomatic tack at last week’s MTV Video Music Awards press conference, according to the New York Daily News, telling reporters, ”When my album drops and Fifty’s album drops, you’re going to get a lot of good music at the same time.”

You’re a little late, I’m already torn

imbruglia0.jpg

I can’t believe it’s been a decade since Natalie Imbruglia released her amazing single “Torn”. I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers falling in love with this song and belting out every single word while dancing around the living room looking emo even though the emo craze hadn’t yet taken the world by storm. Or maybe I was the only one. Either way, I loved the song and the whole album “Torn” was on, so it made me really excited to stumble across these photos of her leaving the dentist’s today. Viva la Natalie!

More Trapped in a Closet, whether you like it or not

rkelly.jpg

From Billboard:

The new round of “Trapped” videos finds Kelly portraying an old man named Randolph, complete with a pot belly and a fake white beard that nearly falls off mid-scene, as well as a preacher in a gray Jheri-curl wig and garish orange suit. In one of the final chapters, Kelly’s Sylvester character talks business with a “Sopranos”-esque mobster who is eating a giant plate of spaghetti.

Genius. The DVD drops August 21.

Here’s Kels with Usher in a song that makes me LOL:

Don’t stop the music

Here is the video for Rihanna’s new single, ‘Don’t stop the music’. I love Rihanna. My favorite song on her new album is ‘Breakin dishes’ but ‘Don’t stop the music’ is a close second. Check it out!

Here’s Rihanna eating alone yesterday looking rather bored:
