You may know her as Winnie from The Wonder Years, but these days Danica McKellar’s more into math. She even wrote a book, Math Doesn’t Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail which hits stores August 2nd. She recently spoke with Newsweek about the book:
“When girls see the antics of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, they think that being fun and glamorous also means being dumb and irresponsible, but I want to show them that being smart is cool,” she said. “Being good at math is cool. And not only that, it can help them get what they want out of life.”
What an awesome role model! It’s too bad we aren’t being inundated with photos of Danica solving math problems or being generally responsible. Instead, it’s impossible to find a full page of entertainment news devoid of the negativity found in the calamitous lives of the leading ladies of the Hollywood party scene. I guess we all love our trainwrecks, eh?
